In this video Major Bob shows so much more expression and has a massive process during the session. He becomes curious of the stick and starts to chew on it and does heaps of licking and yawning. This session he is the most relaxed and expressive by far. I am able to rub on his neck a lot harder with rhythmic motion and I start to teach him how to yield his hindquarters using rhythmic motion. I explain that some horses are more dull by nature and some horses can be more reactive and sensitive by nature. The dull horses can have a tendency to ignore or lean into pressure and the reactive/sensitive horses can have more of a tendency to over react to pressure.
Through good training I want to teach each horse how to response to pressure in a relaxed way. I want horses to learn to relax and understand that pressure and release is just a way of communication with them. For horses to be able to respond and relax to pressure people’s communication has to be extremely clear and very consistent so horses don’t get confused and stressed by the communication. Also if people don’t always have an open door (release of pressure) horses can get very stressed. If you offer clear, consistent communication with constant releases of pressure at the right time and never go over your horse’s thresholds then horses will learn to trust your communication and learn very quickly to respond and relax using pressure and release to communicate with horses.
