20.1 DESENSITISATION ON HIS BODY – TAPPING & JUMPING AROUND HIM

In this video I do another desensitisation exercise with Major Bob. I use my hand and desensitise him to tapping his wither, back and shoulder area using rhythmic motion and approach and retreat. When I desensitise any horse I am always reading their thresholds and make sure that I only ever play on the edge of their threshold but never go over it. I also desensitise him to jumping around him and moving my arms around in his space. I start by moving from foot to foot in a rhythmic way and then build it to where I can jump around him with bigger movements. This is the start of preparing him for me to get on him bareback and also for mounting with the saddle.

It will also help him get more confident and braver with bigger movements as I don’t want to have to sneak around him. Over the coming week I will work on increasing the tapping and jumping around to where I can do much bigger movements and he stays confident and relaxed with the process. This will help build his confidence and trust in me
