Change of Direction – Figure 8 using Cones at the Trot – Madi & Sugar
7.12 minutes – In this video Angie works with Madi and her horse Sugar. They work on doing a change of direction at a trot using two cones. There are three parts to the change of direction; the draw, the re-direct and the support. Angie notices that Sugar isn’t drawing in as well as he could so he is therefore losing forward motion in the change of direction. When a horse doesn’t have a good draw they won’t have enough forward momentum to do a flowing change of direction. Angie borrows Sugar and explains what she does to improve Sugar’s draw. Then at the end of the lesson Madi works with Sugar again and gets to feel the improvement in the change of direction with the improved draw.
