John Wicks Clinic: Explaining the Body Control Exercises
6.18 minutes – In this video John talks through a series of body control exercises. These are important foundation exercises that he goes back to if he has a problem with a particular maneuver. Exercise 1A works on flexing the horse’s nose to the inside using his inside leg at the girth to stand the horse’s inside shoulder up. Exercise 1B focuses on softening and lifting the horse’s ribcage so he can get the horse’s back up and neck down. Exercise 2 is a counter bend, he tips the horse’s nose to the outside and uses his outside leg near the girth to keep the horse’s shoulders and front feet on the circle. John finishes by explaining exercise 3, which works on pushing the hindquarters into the circle.
