John Wicks Clinic: Guiding, Softening & Speed Control
9.05 minutes – In this video John talks a rider through guiding, softening and speed control at the canter to improve their circle work. John starts by getting them to canter a circle and when the horse leaves or speeds up he gets them to guide (steer) across the circle until the horse chooses to stay on the circle. When they understand the guiding exercise he moves onto softening the horse’s back. He gets the rider to pick up the reins and asks the horse to round their back up until they settle into the frame. Once John has the rider guiding and soften their horse better he moves onto speed control.
