John Wicks Clinic: Speeding Up & Slowing Down with a Dull Horse
7.46 minutes – In this video John teaches a student with a dull horse. He works on cantering faster and then slowing the canter down (rate of speed). When the rider asks the horse to slow the canter down the horse wants to stop and lean on the riders hands rather than engage their hindquarters and canter slow. John explains that the horse needs to learn to respect her leg and to keep cantering behind when slowing down in the canter. John explains how to teach the horse to accept her legs a bit more and what to do if the horse leans on her hands through the slow down (rate of speed).
