John Wicks Clinic: Working on the Lead Departure & Guiding at the Canter
8.28 minutes – In this video John talks a student through improving their lead departure by making sure the horse walks forward soft and relaxed. Once they are cantering John works on guiding. He wants the rider to give their horse a loose rein to see what the horse is thinking and to see if they’re going to stay honest to the circle. John works on guiding before he works on collection. Once a horse stays on a circle by themselves it is much easier to then work on collection and speed control as the horse is going to be much more willing.
