Maintenance Exercise For a Horse that is Associating a Lead Change with a Direction Change
4.05 minutes – In this short video John explains an exercise that he does with a horse that is starting to associate a lead change with a change of direction. When John does lead changes he wants the horse to stay straight through the change and not drop a shoulder in the new direction of the lead change thinking they are going to change direction after the lead change. He also wants his horse to wait for the cue to change lead, not to anticipate the middle of the arena with a lead change. This exercise is a great maintenance exercise for an older horse that is anticipating the change of direction straight after the lead change.
