Softening a Stiff Horse Around the Inside Rein & Leg
14.36 minutes – In this video John rides a young horse with a tendency to be stiff in their body and leans on his hands. John rides a circle and flexes the horse’s nose in on the circle and bends the horse’s body around his inside leg. He begins at the walk, then moves to the trot and canter. When John picks up the inside rein and puts his inside leg on he wants the horse to soften and relax to his leg. John uses this as a foundation exercise to go back to if a horse starts getting heavy in his hands or stiff in their body.
